Do you feel reluctant to smile in public because you feel uncomfortable with the appearance of your teeth? Whether you need a good whitening, have periodontal disease, or are missing a few teeth, these issues can all be taken care of by a family dental service.
Why Healthy Smiles Are Important
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) conducted a recent survey. The findings showed that 74% of adults believe that their career success can be affected by their smile. When someone doesn’t have an attractive smile, these participants felt that it could actually harm their chances for career success.
The AACD survey also found that 99.7% of the participants believed that healthy smiles were socially important, and 96% believed attractive smiles could make a person appeal more to the opposite sex. Furthermore, over half of American adults over 50 concur that a person’s smile continues to be their most attractive physical attribute as they age.
Professional Teeth Whitening
While many people in the United States use over-the-counter teeth-whitening products, having teeth professionally cleaned is much more effective. In addition to scraping away plaque, which can lead to other issues, professionals use specialized tools and substances in order to buff and polish teeth.
Treatment for Periodontal Disease
While periodontal disease does increase with age, 47.2% of adults 30 and older may have some level of this condition. It is more common with adults 65 and older, however. Approximately 70.1% of adults within this age bracket will have periodontal disease. There are a variety of treatments available for this gum disease, which can often lead to tooth loss. Prescription rinses and more regular cleanings are often recommended.
Treatment for Edentulous Patients
Current data shows that most adults in the United States have already experienced some tooth loss. Within the next 15 years, however, it is expected that this situation will increase, and over 200 million Americans will have partial tooth loss.
In order to address tooth loss, approximately 15% of Americans choose to have dentures. Dental implants are another option for replacing missing teeth, and the number of people that are opting for this procedure is growing.
Schedule Regular Family Dental Appointments
While having a healthy, attractive smile is important, there are even more important reasons to schedule regular family dental appointments. When someone has oral health issues, it can impact their overall physical and emotional health. Pain, infection, and other issues can all affect a person’s health and well-being.
