It was the longest substitute teaching day ever.
You normally love to sub for your daughter’s kindergarten class and this particular day started with you really looking forward to spending the day in the room full of 24 very eager five and six year olds. After being retired from teaching kindergarten yourself, you are more than happy to have the chance to fill in for you daughter, who is now in her seventh year of having her own kindergarten classroom.
On this particular day your daughter left the notes in the lesson plans that there was a bag of candy on her desk that you could use for the math lesson. She had already had the candy a week, most of it was left over from the Valentine’s Day party. Your daughter suggested that you use it for the math work and let each child eat one piece. You could collect the rest and throw it away at the end of the morning. After you shared the pieces with the students there was a single piece left in the bag. Wondering if it was cinnamon, your favorite flavor, you decided to try this one yourself. An instant later, the sticky candy pulled out one of your crowns. Pain immediately shot through your jaw and you actually had to call another teacher to come in while you composed yourself. You made a call to the closest general dentist only to discover that they could not get you end until the end of the day.
Some how you made it through the rest of the morning and the afternoon, but to say you were uncomfortable would be an understatement.
Fortunately, when you were able to get in the general dentist was able to fix the problem and you were able to get a good night’s sleep. You would need to go back in the following day and have the new crown put in, but you were pain free when you left to go home for the night.

Starting with a general dentist, however, is often in your best interest to have your basic x-rays and cleaning services.
If you have a positive relationship with your dentist it should come as no surprise that dentistry is one of the 10 most trusted and ethical professions in the U.S. If, on the other hand, you are one of the many people who have a love ate relationship with your dental office, you may benefit from some of the newest dental sedation procedures.
Interesting enough, at least 25% of Americans has one or more untreated cavities, and as many as 47.2% of adults who are 30 years and older have some form of periodontal disease. If you want to avoid being one of these statistics, it is important to follow American Dental Association recommendations and brush at least twice a day and make sure that you make and keep your yearly, or twice yearly, cleanings and check ups.
No one wants to have a painfully long day because you have neglected a dental appointment, so make it a priority to see the dentist sooner rather than later, especially if you are experiencing any pain.
